The Lordran and Beyond Patreon is live!
You folks should definitely give it a look, especially if you enjoyed the recent comic! For the inquiring minds, please check out this quick FAQ for the lowdown!
So what the heck is this “Lordran and Beyond?”
In short, Lordran and Beyond is the new URL for the blog! But my intention is for it to be something of a re-branding. I want to give this blog a new identity by elevating myself as a creator. In addition to the usual fanart, GIFs, videos, and general fandom blogging you’re all used to, I’m hoping to release monthly web comics dedicated to the Souls franchise, and I think the recent comic update will give you all a strong indication about the level of quality I’m going for. The comics will be penned by myself and drawn by a variety of skilled and dedicated artists. Today’s July update is the first step in this direction, and with your help, it can go far beyond that.
How does this Patreon thing work?
Not unlike Kickstarter, Patreon is a crowdfunding service to help creators and artists gain the resources they need to keep delivering to their fanbase. However, Patreon campaigns are ongoing. Patrons decide on a set amount of money (as low as $1) to pledge to creators each month, and you’re free to cancel your pledges at any time! There are also rewards for those who pledge, and some are available immediately! And of course continued Patrons are rewarded with regularly added benefits.
Plus, signing up to become a Patron takes no time at all! I’m not here to twist the arms of those who are indifferent to this project, but there’s no overstating how important pledges are! Even if you’re only comfortable with something as little as a single dollar, that’s still hugely beneficial! To put this in perspective, if just ONE TENTH of my followers pledge only $2 EACH, that would be enough to guarantee months of updates. That’s how much of a difference you can make in helping this become a reality.
Okay, so if I pledge, where does my money go?
The artists! They’re the most important cog in this machine, and making certain the artists for each comic update are comfortably paid is the #1 priority. Beyond that, funds would also be used to guarantee quality pledge rewards are added regularly.
So will you be making any money off of this?
I honestly have no idea yet, but the answer is most likely “lol no.” Even if I was able to claim any measurable amount from the Patreon funding for myself without impeding the production of the comics, it’s unlikely I’ll be “making” anything for quite some time given how much I’ve invested from my own pockets to get this off the ground. All told, as long as there’s enough money being pledged to pay the artists for continued updates, then I’ll be totally satisfied.
What if the Patreon doesn’t work out? Will there be no conclusion to the Lucatiel and Benhart story?
I’m still hoping to have it finished. Even if the Patreon under performs, I might still be able to afford to see it through (depending on the exact difference I’d have to pay). That said, if you want to see more updates, it will be up to you to make it possible!
I really appreciate your attention, and you’re a truly fantastic bunch of followers! If you’ve got any questions or need something clarified, please don’t hesitate to message me! I know that I’m obviously asking for a lot here, so I’d like to do anything I can to rest your concerns.
